When to walk
In general, July and August are too hot for walking. We recommend walking in spring or autumn, February-June or September-November, as the weather at this time of year is much more suitable for walking short sections or even the whole route.
What to wear
Getting the right footwear is crucial. It is the difference between having an enjoyable walk or an unpleasant experience. They should have a good strong sole and decent ankle support and be large enough to take a pair of thick socks.
Breathable Walking Socks (Merino wool is ideal, avoid cotton if possible)
Thin layers of quick-drying synthetic clothes are better than cotton or wool. Carry a loose shirt or top that you can wear to prevent sunburn.
Walking Trousers – Quick drying with a good range of movement, avoid denim. (Shorts can be worn however bear in mind that pushing through scrub can be painful).
Sun Hat – Wide brimmed for UV Protection
Rucksack (Lightweight, well fitted, adjusted correctly and comfortable)
Good quality sunglasses – there is limited shade in some sections
Suncream with a high SPF (don’t underestimate how hot the sun can be even in spring and autumn)
First Aid kit – blister plasters, bite relief, antihistamines.
Any necessary medications
High energy snacks
Walking Poles are an optional extra but they will take some of the pressure off your knees, especially when going downhill. Choose poles that are light and strong.
Use good quality gear and don’t bring anything you don’t need.
Whether you want to do a daily or weekly route, we will provide an experienced guide to make sure everyone has the best experience possible.
